Sheffield’s Cathedral Archer Project has received a helping hand from a team of 12 volunteers from Cadbury Trebor Bassett after it received its annual massive delivery of Harvest food.
Each year, the day project for the homeless and vulnerable collects thousands of tins of food, cereals and toiletries, enough to cater for its clients for the following twelve months. The mammoth task of sorting the food stuffs, and moving them in to storage, can only be completed with the help of volunteers.
Led by the Sheffield factory’s Head of Manufacturing, Steve Flello, the team of volunteers spent the day sorting thousands of tins in to food groups to ensure full, well balanced meals can be provided quickly and easily. Tins are then sorted in to date order and moved in to storage for later use.
The Sheffield Cathedral Archer Project provides a range of day services, including hot meals, shower and laundry facilities, arts and crafts, as well as literacy and numeracy support, employment advice and access to IT facilities.
Tracey Viner, Fundraising Manager for the Cathedral Archer Project, said:
“We would never be able to cope with the massive delivery of food we receive at this time of year without the support of volunteers like the group from Cadbury. The food we receive lasts us throughout the year, which gives some idea of the scale of the operation! We are extremely grateful to the team for making the job that much easier.”
