Weather Watch

There are few places for homeless people at weekends. Once wet it will be a struggle to get dry. Could be a miserable night.

Chamber President supports homeless Christmas Appeal

Hermann Beck, President of the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry and co-owner of The Royal Victoria Holiday Inn has pledged his support twice to the Cathedral Archer Project Christmas Appeal.  The Holiday Inn is providing all the food for a bumper Christmas breakfast for the CAP homeless and vulnerable clients and Hermann will be at the project on 22nd December to serve it to the project users as they arrive for breakfast first thing in the morning.

Sheffield Chamber of Commerce President Hermann Beck said: “It is very important, particularly at this time of year and while the country is experiencing an economic downturn, that we do not forget Sheffield’s more vulnerable citizens.

“Sheffield Chamber of Commerce pledged its support for the great work being done by the Archer Project last year and, by attending in my Presidential role, I hope this demonstrates that we are leading by example.

“I would urge people to follow suit and back this important Sheffield charity.”

David Blunkett recently launched the Cathedral Archer Project Christmas Appeal.  The CAP supports the homeless and vulnerable in Sheffield.  The Appeal is to raise funds for support at this more demanding time of year.  It costs £1,000 a day to run the project which is particularly vital at this time as there is extra demand on services.

The CAP is delighted with the response to its Christmas Appeal.  There is still time to make a donation by visiting www.justgiving.com/cathedralarcherproject or by cheque made payable to The Cathedral Archer Project and send it to Christmas Appeal, CAP, Sheffield Cathedral, Church Street, Sheffield, S1 1HA.

The Cathedral Archer Project is the only centre of its kind in the city centre of Sheffield.  It delivers a high quality service to people from a variety of backgrounds associated with homelessness including rough sleepers, drug and alcohol addicts, women street workers, probation clients, asylum seekers and refugees. With support most will be able to establish secure lifestyles free from drugs and alcohol and the lifestyle that accompanies them.  The project serves in excess of 10,500 hot breakfasts each year, in addition to over 4000 hot meals and other basic provisions to support the growing number of homeless people in the city.  Clients can access a host of services at the centre including education (Art, Numeracy, Literacy, Crafts/Sewing, IT, Women’s Group and a Keep it Safe Group for drug users), laundry services, showers, housing and benefits advice and support, food parcels, health services, telephone and internet access and a postal address for those of no fixed abode.  Many of these are offered through partnership work.
