Homeless project get website completed in a day!
The Cathedral Archer Project has found its home on the world wide web. And in less than one day with the help of BashMash.
Before the Collaboration Day started, BashMash organiser, Jag Gill, said “we are a group of technology geeks with a social conscience – we get together regularly at BarCamp and GeekUp to share our digital and new media knowledge and we thought we could use our skills to benefit a local charity. The Cathedral Archer Project needs a dedicated website and we are going to give it to them at the end of our session.”
The website evolved during the day, the BashMash team have included live weather updates so browsers can see what sort of conditions people will be sleeping out in. Also, the Archer Project are going to give various statistics on a regular basis showing how many people have attended for breakfast, how many food parcels they have handed out and other facts and figures.
The site is living and interactive with stories about the project and the clients, as well as details of the work the project does to support the homeless and vulnerable towards a more stable lifestyle and its partnerships with other organisations such as Probation and the Drugs Action Team.
Tracy Viner, fundraising manager of the project commented, “we do not have the knowledge or expertise in house to set up, design or plan a website, so this has been a fantastic opportunity for us to have a website that we can then manage and keep up to date. We had a great time working with the BashMash team at the weekend.”
About BashMash: Each collaboration day project is focussed on one selected local charity or third sector organisation. We use our skills with new media and technology to deliver solutions that help address some of their specific immediate and long-term goals. We work closely together in the run-up to and during their dedicated BashMash day to make sure that the outcomes produced at the end of it are relevant and appropriate to their organisational goals. All technical contributions and collaborations are voluntary and the outputs are made available for the open source community.

Excellent! Congratulations to the BashMash team for pulling off such a herculean effort and good luck to the Archer Project.
to all bashmashers. Thank you very much. The site is great. I should have stayed with you on Saturday. Forest were dismal, though not as hapless as some have suggested. I enjoyed having a look behind the scenes yesterday and have updated the figures today. There are danger signs that i’m enjoy this IT stuff a little too much.

Tim - it was our pleasure. I’m glad to hear you’re slowly getting addicted to social media. This is a Good Thing, and hopefully we’ve shown that it’s not so difficult either. Keep up the updates, and an eye out on http://bashmash.org where I’ll be adding some more useful resources to help you sustain the momentum. Don’t forget to reciprocate your followers on Twitter - there are some interesting connections that are beginning to form for the Archer Project.
Hiya Tim,
Just to echo Jags message, it was a real pleasure to work on the project with you guys, and just a great experience to do something with real social impact. Given the hard work you all put in, it seems the least we could do for CAP. Wishing you all the best with the new site. Keep the updates up, and who knows, maybe in another 12 months we can come back for a revamp.
