Sheffield solicitors go potty for homeless

The haul

The haul

A local firm of solicitors have collected over 70 meals for the homeless in just one day. Ashton Morton Slack’s monthly dress down day dedicated its April nomination to The Cathedral Archer Project and in exchange for dressing down the staff contributed with an edible currency of noodles; pot noodles to be precise.

The Cathedral Archer Project offers food and a base to the homeless in Sheffield. The charity recently launched a new website which features facts about the number of people they serve and in addition a small box gives details of where the priority lies for donations. At the time pot noodles were a key item and this prompted the idea. Although pot noodles are not necessarily seen as an ideal meal for many people, they actually offer a high number of calories which significantly help with keeping homeless fed and warm, in addition when you don’t have access to a kitchen it has a major impact on the accessibility of hot food. It is relatively easy to ask a shop or pub for some boiling water for a pot noodle.

In truth the Cathedral Archer Project offers so much more to the homeless and vulnerable than just food. The Cathedral Archer Project offers hygiene facilities such as showers, laundry and fresh clothes. It also offers access to medical services like dentists and podiatrist.

Following essentials like food and health care the Archer Project offers support for people to achieve and maintain stable life patterns that include education groups, drug harm reduction groups and occupation and leisure activities.

To summarise the Archer Projects support and service to the homeless is second to none.

Lisa Price of Ashton Morton Slack said “The Cathedral Archer Project work tirelessly to offer help and support to some of the most vulnerable people in our society, being involved in raising money or donations for them is a humbling experience. This local charity is based on our doorstep and the variety of services they offer is phenomenal. We understand that a donation of pot noodles is like a drop in the ocean but hope that by offering something a bit different we have raised some awareness of the struggles faced by people and the support available in our community”.
