When the group of 11 South Yorkshire bankers slept out on the Cathedral forecourt in the January cold, they had set themselves a huge target to raise £4,000 to support the Cathedral Archer Project. This week they handed over a cheque for £5,050 to the fundraising manager, Tracy Viner. In total contrast to the cold, windy night, the group enjoyed the sunshine and flowers in the CAP’s garden.
Michael Hackett, Director for RBS Business and Commercial Banking, said, “I didn’t realise how difficult it would be to cope after one night outside. It had a huge impact during the following day and took me quite a while to recover. If people have to do this daily, it must be really tough to organise themselves, get to appointments and make changes in their lives. The Cathedral Archer Project is somewhere safe, warm and welcoming homeless people can go for support to help them.”
Tracy added, “we are delighted. The money will help us continue to offer the best level of support for everyone that comes into the project. But more than that, there are now more people that understand some of the issues facing homeless people and how difficult it can be to take steps to change their lives. People have to feel safe before they can begin to make changes, so we pride ourselbves on being a welcoming safe place where the clients can feel confident.”
