In March, a team of over 30 intrepid walkers will be trekking along the Camino De Santiago route raising money for The Archer Project and The Choir with No Name.
The Archer Project supports people experiencing any stage of homelessness, offering essentials such as food, showers, healthcare, and emotional and practical support, helping people move toward independence and stability.
The Choir With No Name runs choirs across the UK for people affected by homelessness and marginalisation, building confidence, friendship, and joy through music. Sheffield’s choir rehearses at the Cathedral, and is a constant reminder of the power of singing to bring people together.
Together, these charities provide both the essentials of daily life and the things that give life meaning — dignity, creativity, community, and belonging.
In 2025, a smaller team including The Dean of Sheffield Abi Thompson and Musical Director Tom Daggett took on the challenge raising money for The Choir with No Name.
Dean Abi Thompson, who walked the Camino in 2025, said:
"Initially, I worried I wouldn’t keep up — but the Camino taught me the beauty of slowing down, walking alongside those at the back, and realising that’s okay. This trip is not a race. It’s about connection, reflection, and raising funds for two incredible organisations that embody community and hope."
This year a bigger team will be donning their walking boots, including a team from Sheffield Cathedral with Dean Abi and Tom, and our very own Archer Project Trustee’s Anne Kerslake and Richard Taylor.
Richard said “I volunteered in the kitchen for several years and saw first-hand the amazing work the Project does with people who are often desperately in need. Now as a trustee, I see how tightly the Project operates financially, without public funding, and how it relies entirely on the generous giving of individuals and companies. I am very proud to be walking the Camino to help raise funds. So please sponsor me!
Anne who is also a Choir with No Name volunteer as well as an Archer Project trustee said: “It's about thinking who we're doing it for, really, even people that have experienced homelessness and now have somewhere to live, the trauma doesn't go away, and that's where the Archer Project comes in, of course. With The Choir with No Name, that camaraderie of singing makes a huge difference to people, so if you haven't donated, please do!”
Deputy Head of Fundraising Lucy Wilks said “We’re so grateful to Anne and Richard for donning their walking boots and joining the Camino team. It’s been so great to hear about their preparations and we can’t wait to hear all about their Camino experience!”
